The Independent, the UK’s leading quality digital news brand, today announces the launch of the new Independent App.
Building on the title’s history of innovation, the new app consolidates the current Independent Premium and Independent Daily Edition apps into a single, convenient destination for all readers, including subscribers and new users, who can register to access the content.
This new, streamlined platform integrates the best of The Independent’s award-winning journalism with a full range of multimedia functionality and features including live news feeds, audio articles and playlists, Independent TV, a new interface and design and dark mode.
Beyond these new additions, the app will retain the features which made it so popular with readers over the years, including breaking news notifications, sharing and saving tools, and access to exclusive events.
The app is downloadable on the Apple App Store and Google Play store now.

The Independent has picked up an unprecedented five trophies at the prestigious Drum Awards for Online Media.
The coveted Publisher of the Year title went to The Independent, a huge honour and recognition of the work we do to make change happen around the globe. Independent Ignite was declared Branded Content Team of the Year for an incredible first 12 months of business and the impact it has already made on our industry. Highly commended nods were given to The Independent for Brand of the Year, Commercial Campaign of the Year (for Samsung Work Wonders) and Best Pivot Initiative (for our A2K strategy).
The winners were announced at a ceremony held in front of a live audience at The Drum Labs in London and broadcast around the world on Friday 29 April. The competition was judged by a powerhouse panel of international digital advertising leaders from the likes of CNN, NBCU, Bloomberg, Elle, LinkedIn, Wired UK, The Athletic and Insider.

An Independent Ignite partnership with GSK took to Independent TV to help people make everyday changes to their health.
During the pandemic, many of us found ourselves working in a new world – from home more often or for the first time. We’ve adapted to new ways of working but research shows we’re falling into bad habits – not moving enough and using unsuitable chairs and makeshift desks.
To understand how to work from home in a healthy way, we enlisted the help of Dr. Arti Dhar, GSK Consumer Healthcare’s Principal Scientist and physiotherapist Dr. Anna Lowe of Sheffield Hallam University. They explain some of the issues people are experiencing and help two Independent team members Jacob Stolworthy (Chief Culture Reporter) and Zimi Peche (Senior Graphic Designer) make easy lifestyle changes.
See how they got on here, hosted on Independent TV.
