Ipsos reveals that The Independent is both the largest quality digital news brand and the fastest growing news brand in the UK today

Ipsos iris reveals that The Independent is both the largest quality digital news brand* and the fastest growing news brand in the UK today.

In official Ipsos iris data just announced, The Independent reached 22.1m UK readers in February (+8% month-on-month), making it the UK’s largest quality digital news brand*. The success was especially impressive when considering that the UK news brands overall declined by 2% month-on-month.

In addition, The Independent was the fastest growing news brand in the UK, ahead of The Guardian (-5% MoM, -6% YoY). The Independent was one of only two titles to grow among the ten national news brands.

Digging deeper:

 

  • There were large increases for The Independent’s news section (+39.1%), the travel section (+19.7%) and arts and entertainment (+5.2%).
  • The Independent also saw significant growth in page views (+16.5%) and total minutes increased (+7.1%)
  • The Independent remains the largest pureplay news brand – with the deduplicated combined monthly reach of the other seven being 7.3m
