England football star Beth Mead has topped The Independent’s 2023 Pride List, published today. The list, which was compiled in association with Pride in London, recognises the extraordinary changemakers who have defined the LGBT+ community over the last year.Â
Beth tops the 50-person list not only for her incredible sporting achievements on the pitch, but also for using her platform as a positive ambassador for the LGBT+ community.
The rest of the top five are, in order:
This year’s Pride List is the relaunch of an initiative which began as the Pink List in 2000, with artist Sir Elton John, Olympian boxer Nicola Adams, and transgender actor Riley Carter Millington among those LGBT+ figures honoured over the years.Â
2023’s edition renews that commitment to celebrating the community’s voices and recognising those driving change. The Pride List’s judging panel was composed of team members from The Independent including Editor-in-Chief Geordie Greig, Deputy Editor Chloe Hubbard and Independent Daily Edition Editor Alastair Jamieson.
The Pride List comes as The Independent announces a year-long partnership with Pride in London as its exclusive news partner. The relationship encompasses an array of commercial, editorial and marketing initiatives, during Pride Month (June) and the Pride in London parade (1 July) for the second year running, and also throughout the coming year, demonstrating The Independent’s commitment to supporting the LGBT+ community every day.
The full list was published on The Independent on 4 June 2023.
