All About Nadine White

Rounding off Black History Month last week, The Independent’s Nadine White joined UM’s All About U series for an insightful interview with UM’s Michael Brown. Nadine is the award-winning Race Correspondent at The Independent.

For those of you who couldn’t attend, please find the recording here – you will hear interesting insights into Nadine’s life journey, her perspectives on today’s outlook for equality, and how the media can accelerate progress.

Fighting Spirit for a Great Cause

We are so proud of our very own Jeanette Walker, who represented The Independent – and won – at this year’s Media Fight Night! Since its inception in 2015, Media Fight Night has generated more than £1m for various charities and beneficiaries. This year, Media Fight Night raised money for Off the Ropes, which aims to improve the physical and mental health of children and adults under mental health services in London and Kent. The Media Fight Night JustGiving page is still open if you would like to donate.

Jeanette, you did us all proud!

Choose Love Store

As part of our commitment to making change happen, we have a continuing partnership with Choose Love, who raise vital funds for refugees and displaced people across the world. This November and December, Choose Love is once again opening its pop-up store in London, supported by The Independent. If you’d like to go and check out its wonderful items – goods which are sent directly from you to refugees, as well as clothes to show your solidarity, head down to the following address: 15 – 17 Foubert’s Pl, Carnaby, London W1F 7QB.

The Independent continues to take action in causes we believe make a real difference and we are currently running two campaigns that are doing just that. Help us to  make change happen and sign the petitions below:

Feed The Future: at nearly 230,000 signatures.

We are lobbying the UK Government to help 800,000 children in poverty, who are currently blocked from having free school meals.

General Election Now: almost at 470,000 signatures.

Here at The Independent we believe it is time for voters to decide who should govern the country and uphold the democratic principles our governing bodies are built on. For this reason we are calling for a general election now.
