Latest figures from Reddit show that The Independent is continuing to lead the way when it comes to news publisher popularity on the platform.
At the time of writing, The Independent’s ‘karma’ — the Reddit score which is attained by people positively engaging with an account’s content — stands at almost 2 million. Compared to other UK news publishers, this puts The Independent firmly at number one, with almost double the amount of karma than the news brand in second place.
The Independent also dominates US news publishers, with its positive score only beaten by The Washington Post.
Matt Payton at The Independent says: “It’s lovely to get this recognition by the Reddit community and to see how valued, trusted and appreciated The Independent’s journalism is around the globe. It’s basically feedback on a massive scale, and numbers like these continue to prove what we’ve always known: that integrity, inclusion, innovation and independence are the most important qualities when it comes to news; and are the values that readers cherish above all else.”
This Reddit popularity echoes The Independent’s audience figures: growing at an extraordinary 28% month-on-month in the US. Meanwhile, Reddit enjoys huge success as a network of communities where people can dive into their interests, hobbies and passions.
