The Independent remains the biggest quality digital news brand in the UK

According to the latest figures from Ipsos IRIS, The Independent continues to be the number one ranking title amongst all quality digital UK news brands.

In December, The Independent’s audience increased +6% year-on-year and +4% month-on-month to achieve an audience of 22.2M. Not only is The Independent at the top spot, it has extended its lead over The Guardian*.

Highlights:

  • The Independent’s audience on mobile was up +12% YoY and +5% MoM to 20.9M
  • The Independent was the only pureplay news brand among the top eight with YoY growth – (HuffPost was at -15% and Buzzfeed was at -31%)
  • In December, The Independent reached twice as many readers as the next seven pureplays combined.

 

*The Independent’s audience figure compares to The Guardian at 20.98M, The Telegraph at 17.47M, and The Times and Sunday Times at 13.83M.
