The Independent is pleased to announce that Andrew Morley, Chief Revenue Officer and Beth Gordon, Business Marketing and Communications Director, have been shortlisted in their nominated categories for the Global Women in Marketing Awards 2024.
Andrew Morley has been recognised in the ‘Equality Advocate of the Year’ category. The criteria stipulates that the award is for a male who has proved to be an equality advocate in their role in marketing. They must inspire equality, challenge the norms of marketing, and be passionate about the development of people within the industry and whose energy and commitment has delivered outstanding results.
Andrew Morley’s leadership at The Independent stands out for its authenticity. He has consistently advocated for equality through real action. In an industry where bold declarations are often not followed by meaningful change, Andrew takes a different approach. He fosters an environment where women lead, innovate, and make lasting impacts on the business. This is signified by the fact that it was Andrew’s female leaders who put him forward for the award, providing in depth testimonials of his advocacy.
As Andrew says, “No one in business has a right to success —you have to work hard for it, and it requires talent and ability. The quickest route to success is by hiring the best people.” This ethos has shaped his entire career and enabled him to build high-performing teams of talented women who, in his words, “just happen to be the best in class at what they do.”
Beth Gordon has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Leader in Marketing’ category. This award recognises an individual who has demonstrated exemplary marketing and communications leadership in the last 12 months, and who can demonstrate how their leadership impacted the performance of their organisation.
Beth has helped to transform the perception of The Independent in the advertising industry and beyond, spearheading groundbreaking initiatives to communicate and demonstrate the brand’s unique position as a changemaker. Her belief is that no marketing activity should happen which doesn’t achieve good: that our communication shouldn’t just talk about making change happen – it should do it. Consequently, she has helped to raise millions of pounds, increase awareness of charity causes, amplify marginalised voices and educate brands on authentic purpose marketing. Key campaigns included in Beth’s entry were the Zarach Christmas Campaign, International Women’s Day 2024, Pride 2024, the Refuge Brick by Brick appeal, Climate 100 list and Black History Month 2024.
The winners will be announced at the Women in Marketing Awards 2024 in London on 20 November 2024.
