The shortlist for the Amnesty Media Awards 2025 has been announced and it’s a double nomination for The Independent and Bel Trew.

The awards, which celebrate outstanding human rights journalism, span 10 categories with pieces selected by an internal panel of Amnesty International experts.

The A-Word, the powerful Independent TV documentary which examines the impact of changing abortion access in the US, has received a nod in the Best Feature category, whilst the Written Investigation shortlist recognises Bel’s special report on the thousands of people with disabilities caught up in Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
